I Notice Design Everywhere I go
There’s something I’ve realized about myself recently. I notice design everywhere. Not just in obvious places like websites or Instagram feeds. I mean everywhere. The colors and logos in coffee shops I work at in Malaysia. The tile patterns in Lisbon. The way a menu is laid out. The font choice on a boutique storefront. The packaging on a matcha tin. I can’t turn it off. Color combinations. Spacing. Texture. Layout. Energy.
And here’s the thing, design is never random. It’s intentional. Or at least, it should be. When you walk into a space and immediately feel calm, inspired, energized, or luxurious, that feeling was designed.
The same thing happens when someone lands on your website. Or your Instagram. Or opens your newsletter. They feel something before they consciously process anything. And that feeling determines whether they stay (or go).
That’s why branding matters so much. Branding isn’t just a logo. It’s the experience you create. It’s the emotion you evoke. It’s the consistency that builds trust.
When I’m walking through a city and noticing the architecture or color palettes, I’m thinking about how those same principles apply to business. Is there contrast? Is there cohesion? Is there breathing room? Does it feel intentional?
So many business owners are brilliant at what they do. But visually? Their brand feels pieced together. A little of this, a little of that, no clear direction. And that’s not a creativity problem. It’s a clarity problem.
When your design is aligned your content feels easier to create, your messaging feels stronger, your brand looks elevated, you attract the right people. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does have to be thoughtful.
Maybe you don’t walk around analyzing tile patterns like I do. But your audience is still reacting to your design choices, consciously or subconsciously.
The question is: What is your brand making them feel?
Because whether you realize it or not, design is speaking for you before you ever say a word. And if you’ve been feeling like your visuals are “fine” but not fully aligned, that’s usually your sign.
You don’t need more random graphics. You need intentional design.
